Friends of Smyrna Library

Dr. Catherine Lewis Will Discuss Her Latest Book on Eisenhower and Golf

SMYRNA, GA (June 12, 2007) - The Friends of Smyrna Library has announced its featured guest for its June Third Thursday program. Dr. Catherine Lewis, a Kennesaw State University faculty member, will discuss her most recent book, "Don't Ask What I Shot; How Eisenhower's Love of Golf Helped Shape 1950's America." The event takes place Thursday, June 21 at 7:30 pm at the Smyrna Library in the downstairs meeting room at 100 Village Green Circle in the Smyrna Village. There is no admission charge. For more information, please contact the library at 770-431-2860 or visit friendsofsmyrnalibrary.org.

Dr. Lewis, a KSU faculty member since 2003, has authored or co-authored five books including "Considerable Passions: Golf, the Masters and the Legacy of Bobby Jones," "The PGA Championship: The Season's Final Major with John Companiotte," "The Changing Face of Public History: The Chicago Historical Society and the Transformation of an American History Museum," "Bobby Jones and the Quest for the Grand Slam," and "A Host to History: The Story of the Atlanta Athletic Club." In addition to her work at KSU, she is a curator and special projects coordinator at the Atlanta History Center and has curated more than 30 exhibitions. She holds a B.A. in English and History from Emory University and a M.A. and Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Iowa.

"We are delighted to have Dr. Lewis speak to our members and friends at a time of the year when golf season is in full swing," commented Linda Evans, president of the Friends of Smyrna Library. "Many people probably don't realize how President Eisenhower's passion for the game of golf was a tremendously influencing factor in his life, which included both his public and private life. Dr. Lewis will provide us with great insight on this subject."
