Dr. William P. Marchione

Dr. William P. Marchione, Ph.D. will present a slide show and lecture on the history of Temperance and Prohibition in the Cobb County area. Georgia was the very first state to embrace prohibition in the 20th century, doing so in 1908 a decade ahead of the 18th amendment.

Harry Potter’s World: Renaissance Science, Magic and Medicine

Although a fantasy story, the magic in the Harry Potter books is partially based on Renaissance traditions that played an important role in the development of Western science, including alchemy, astrology, and natural philosophy. This exhibition, using materials from the National Library of Medicine, explores Harry Potter's world and its roots in Renaissance magic, science, and medicine.
